She completed undergraduate degrees in Physics & Astronomy and German at the University of Pittsburgh in 2002 and her Ph.D. in Astrophysics at UCLA in 2009. As a participant in the PDP from 2006 to 2008, Emily hosted a CfAO intern in the UCLA Infrared Laboratory in 2006 and instructed the Akamai Observatory Short Course (AOSC) in 2007 and 2008. Emily continues to apply the understanding of teaching and learning she developed through the PDP to a variety of learning venues, currently focusing on museum-based education programs for middle and high school students. Her career goals will always include increasing the equity and diversity in science, from both research and educational perspectives, as a direct result of her participation in the PDP.
